Last night was the first new Aaron Traffas Band show. We played some songs, sold some shirts and had a ton of fun. A big thanks goes out to Anthony Farrar for getting on the road and coming along. We’re definitely going to be playing more shows with Anthony.
Greg Bollenbach and rest of the wait staff at Bobby T’s was awesome as always. You’ll not find a better crew in the state. Thanks for giving us a place to play and making us feel welcome as always.

I’m throwing in some pretty obscure stuff today. Brant Bjork has had many bands over the years, Brant Bjork and the Bros, Kyuss, Fu Manchu (the first featured band), Decon, Ch’e, Mondo Generator and more. Brant brings a simplistic outlook to rock and roll all the while injecting his sound with a groove unmatched by many bands. Here’s today’s link:

Hey, all, I’m doing this on the fly today because I’m strapped for time. So just a bit and then to the link. I had the pleasure of playing an opening set with these guys in Oklahoma City with my band Guse. They were killer then and are still rockin’ today. They are Taddy Porter from Stillwater, Ok.

Oh, do I have some good tunes today! I’m going to add some local Lawrence fare now and again and this is a great place to start. We’re listening to Big Stack Daddy today. These guys have a massive collection of really great tunes. I’ve had the pleasure of sitting in with these guys for one show and let me be the first to tell you that these guys are some of the best musicians around. Here’s the link:

Well it’s been a long month. Mason made the comment last night that this was the most we’ve practiced since we started playing music together over 10 years ago, and I think he’s right. We’re excited to play our first show in Manhattan as the new ATB with Randy Miller bringing the bass guitar. It’s a much more rocking set, filled with more original music than we’ve ever played. We’ll be joined on Saturday by our friend and special guest Anthony Farrar from Medicine Lodge, Kansas. We’re pulling out all the stops to make this show the best way to start the school year.
New merchandise is in! We’ll have a fresh round of shirts for sale on Saturday. They won’t be made available for sale on the website until after Saturday’s show – if there are any left! Get them while they’re hot.
See you on Saturday at Bobby T’s!

Hey, all, I’ve got something a bit more bluesy for you today. Well, that’s a pretty loose definition I guess. These guys are actually classified as Stoner Rock but they land on the bluesy side of things. They are Pearls and Brass from Nazareth, PA. They’ve got two records out that are both solid all of the way through. These guys get into some great timing structures that meander through the song changing from one minute to the next. Reminds me at times of old Black Sabbath, Blue Cheer or Cream. Crack open on Old Style and turn this baby up cause it’s best experienced with the volume at 11!

Link is huge but just copy and paste, it’s well worth it.

Back in for another round. As you might have noticed I’m not going to be posting on the weekends, most of the time. Today I’m bringing you another band from Sweden, Stockholm this time. They are King Hobo! I found this band because their drummer is one of my all time favorites. His name is Jean-Paul Gastor (he is the drummer for Clutch). I’m a little short on time today so we’ll get right to the point. Here’s the link, go check ‘em out!

Back for another installment and boy am I going to switch it up on you guys today. I’m bringing a little something for your boogie shoes. Today we’re listening to Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. This group is like a time capsule from 1972 but they are touring right now! The Dap Kings are the house band for Daptone Records, the label to which Sharon is signed, and they’ve got a back beat that will blow your mind. “They are widely thought to be spearheads of a revivalist movement that aims to capture the essence of funk/soul music as it was at its height in the mid-1960s to mid-1970s.” (Wikipedia) That being true, these guys far surpass much of the funk/soul during that period. In addition to that, one can experience that music with a far superior production quality. listen and enjoy!

Hey, all, popping in to share my twisted music experience with the world. Today I come bearing gifts from Southern California. These guys started covering the world in fuzz in 1990 and have just kept on giving us fuzzed-out guitars and heavy, thrashing drums ever since. They are Fu Manchu, beware their force is great!

Listen and enjoy…or don’t.
Until tomorrow I bid you all farewell.
