Fallen Angels

Chris GoeringChris Goering

Hey everyone,

I had a free moment so I decided I would recommend a CD. I just purchased and listened to Gram Parsons & the Fallen Angels Live 1973. It is a recording of a live radio broadcast they did that year in New York. For anyone claiming to be a country-rock music fan, this is a must own. Parsons is credited, along with featured bandmate Emmylou Harris and contemporary Neil Young, with forming the alternative country movement in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Tragically, Parsons died of an overdose later the year of this CD. Check it out.

When My Face Turns Blue

Chris GoeringChris Goering

When the Stars Go Blue is a Tim McGraw song???

Wrong.

Try my hero Ryan Adams. He wrote it back in 2000 and it was on Gold.

It is a great song. I can’t believe Timmy is screwing it up.

peace out, g’s out

The Prophet Tom Petty

Just made one of the coolest analogies of current popular rock music.

"It is like professional wrestling. People know its fake but they still go to see what happens."

Sounds like some others I know.

Spring Broke

Chris GoeringChris Goering

I have never been one for wild women in bikinis or the sun and fun of spring break so many seem to make an annual event but this is ridiculous.

Let’s start with the weather in Kansas. Snow, ice, sleet, rain and highs for the past four days in the low 40’s.

Let’s continue with what I have been doing for spring break. For some reason, I decided it would be a good idea to become National Board Certified for Teaching. The 48 page portfolio is due on March 31st. I have not left the house, expcept to take the trash to the curb once, since Sunday morning. These walls man. These walls.

I never wear sweat pants. I have worn them for four straight days now.

Showers are optional.

Let’s finish with the fact that I am about halfway through this process and also about halfway through Spring Break.

I am going to the jar store in my sweat pants. I heard they were selling spring break in a bottle.

Better watch out, that sounds like a title to the next pop country hit…going to spring break in my sweat pants…I just sold (out) the rights to Kenny Chesney.

Trail of Tears

Chris GoeringChris Goering

Yesterday I walked to campus. Down the street of life, only death remained. Garbage sacks full of the evidence from the past week of pre spring break parties littered the lawns. Doors were shut. Lights were off. I imagined walking through a town where everyone had magically disappeared. They were gone.

The guys on that had invented a game in the front lawn the other day were gone. So too were there bottles of beer, fence posts, frisbees, stereo, and jubilant moods. A few shards of glass remained as a testament of what had happened there.

It was nice to walk to campus and not see anyone. Nobody had to pretend to be busy so as not to talk to me.

I liked driving across town this morning without fearing for my life at every intersection.

The restaraunt was only reasonably busy for breakfast.

Is it summer yet?

Little white crosses

Chris GoeringChris Goering

I drive by you everyday when I can’t hide
Another deadly bend in this road
Another long night

I look over and start telling a story
But you don’t answer anymore
But you were always laughing

Every time I get in I still cry
I wait for a minute but you don’t make a sound
The radio only plays along with time
This buzzing blur in my ears, numbing my mind
Those little white crosses are all mine

Hills and grassland pass on by
Watching me drive away from you
Watching the ghost by my side

I can’t escape this world of lies
Seeing red on the yellow sign
Seeing your life floating on a river

Every time I get in I still cry
I wait for a minute but you don’t make a sound
The radio only plays along with time
This buzzing blur in my ears, numbing my mind
Those little white crosses are all mine

The reminders up and down the roads
People without one barely notice
People with one can’t see to drive

A greeting card all dressed in white
Staring up at me
Staring down at your life

Every time I get in I still cry
I wait for a minute but you don’t make a sound
The radio only plays along with time
This buzzing blur in my ears, numbing my mind
Those little white crosses are all mine

Your little white cross is what’s left of my life

Another stroll as 'that guy'

Chris GoeringChris Goering

People clear nearly off the sidewalk as I approach. Phones come out with fake calls and suddenly the concrete sidewalk has the attention holding power. Others rummage in their purse, hide behind mirrored sunglasses, and manipulate their Mp3 players to look busy.

"Good afternoon"

My greeting is once again not returned.

"How are you doing today?"

Silence.

I try for the time honored "hello" but still nothing.

Yet I am ‘that guy.’ The guy that seems to be having too good of a time to be on campus. The guy without inhibitions to speak to every single person I meet. Maybe that is weird. Maybe it is because I am the overweight, scratch that, fat guy. Maybe it is because my head is bald.

Maybe when you snubbed me yesterday, you didn’t mean to. Maybe you will see me again in class as your teacher. Maybe then you will say hi.

Until then I will just be ‘that guy.’

Nothing to Say

Chris GoeringChris Goering

I saw that Mason posted so I decided I better say something.

Something.

You rock man!

Is your other band playing anytime soon?

Do I get to play with you again soon? We should, gasp, practice sometime. How long has it been now?

Long time running…

Post by Mason
Mason Powell

Well, it’s been a hell of a long time since I’ve posted anything and I apologize. School is really swamping me this semester, I guess that means that I’m learning something… right? Things are going well however, just don’t have time for much else. I’m hoping to see both G and Aaron sometime soon though, I really miss playing with you guys. Well I don’t have too long as I am working so I’ll try to update this more often now.
